Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare to use business technology.
   • Tasks requiring business technology are identified.
   • Business technology is selected to achieve task requirements.
   • Manuals, training booklets and/or online help or help-desks are identified to support use of technology.
2. Operate business technology.
   • Business technology is safely operated in line with manufacturer instructions.
   • Workplace health and safety (WHS) issues relating to equipment operation are identified and addressed.
   • Manuals, training booklets and/or online help or help-desks are accessed to overcome basic difficulties with use of business technology.
   • Results of business technology use are interpreted correctly in line with manufacturer instructions.
3. Maintain business technology.
   • Business technology is checked for serviceability.
   • Business technology is serviced and repaired in line with enterprise procedures.
   • Business technology is safely and securely stored.

Range Statement

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Business technology must include at least one from each of the following three groups:

general business technology: digital camera electronic diary or scheduler electronic tablet global positioning system (GPS) laptop or personal computer modem printer smart phone mobile device point-of-sale equipment: cash register EFTPOS equipment scanner swimming pool and spa-specific equipment: chlorometer digital water testing device electronic stopwatch electronic thermometer photometer pool management software package.

Performance Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also select three different business technologies and demonstrate their use in completing work tasks associated with swimming pool and spa servicing.

One technology must be selected from each of the following three groups:

general business technology:

digital camera

electronic diary or scheduler

electronic tablet

global positioning system (GPS)

laptop or personal computer

modem

printer

smart phone

mobile device

point-of-sale equipment:

cash register

EFTPOS equipment

scanner

swimming pool and spa-specific equipment:

chlorometer

digital water testing device

electronic stopwatch

electronic thermometer

photometer

pool management software package.

In doing the above, the person must:

demonstrate safe use of business technology used in swimming pool and spa servicing

perform routine maintenance of business technology used in swimming pool and spa servicing within scope of own role.

Knowledge Evidence

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

enterprise policies, protocols and procedures relating to:

information technology

use of business technology

use and maintenance procedures for:

general business technology

point-of-sale equipment

swimming pool and spa-specific equipment

work health and safety (WHS) implications of using business technology, including:

ergonomic requirements

environmental requirements.
